Luxembourg is a favourite holiday destination for cyclists. The Luxembourg Ardennes is particularly popular with road cyclists and mountain bikers.
With around 600 kilometres of cycle paths and even more kilometres of off-road trails, Luxembourg and the Éislek – or Luxembourg Ardennes – are a true paradise for road cyclists and mountain bikers alike. It’s no surprise therefore that many cyclists take their racing bike, gravel bike or mountain bike on holiday with them, secured to the bike carrier on the tow bar or on the roof of their car or camper van.
The hilly and uneven terrain of the Luxembourg Ardennes makes a good breeding ground for racing cyclists. Despite its small size, Luxembourg has a rich cycling tradition, with Charly Gaul – winner of the Tour de France, two-time winner of the Giro d’Italia and three-time King of the Mountains in these major tours – as its most prominent exponent. Gaul’s name appears regularly in the top 5, or even top 3, of the best climbers of all time.
