Clervaux Castle

Historic hilltop castle in the heart of the Ardennes

The picturesque town of Clervaux, nestled in the Luxembourg Ardennes, is home to two iconic landmarks: its monastery and the hilltop Clervaux Castle. Perched on a rocky slope, the white castle dominates the skyline and adds to the town's fairytale charm.

The oldest parts date from the 12th century, while most of the current structure was built in the 15th century. Later, horseshoe-shaped residences were added around the main castle building.

During the Battle of the Bulge in late 1944, the castle was heavily damaged. It was later restored by the Luxembourg state, which has housed several museums here since the 1970s, including the Museum of the Battle of the Bulge that details the liberation of La Roche and nearby villages in January 1945.
