Bourscheid Castle
Luxembourg’s largest castle with medieval allure
Bourscheid Castle stands on a hilltop above the village and is the largest stone fortress in Luxembourg. Built around the year 1000, it features round towers and a Gothic wall added in the 14th century. Archaeological finds reveal that the site was already occupied during Roman times.
The Lords of Bourscheid were a powerful knightly family and fought alongside the Duke of Luxembourg. After the last lord died, the castle declined, though it remained inhabited until 1803. Since 1972, it has been state-owned and partially restored.
Today, the castle is open daily to visitors. You can explore with a guided tour or audio guide – a must-see for history lovers.
