Bock Casemates
Explore tunnels, legends and Luxembourg’s early roots
Hidden beneath the Bock promontory in Luxembourg City lies a vast tunnel network dating back to 1745, later expanded twice. The Bock Casemates also feature an archaeological crypt with ruins of the original fortress built by Count Siegfried in the 10th century – the foundation of the city. These remains were only uncovered in 1993.
The casemates are also tied to the legend of Melusina, Siegfried’s mysterious wife. According to myth, she vanished forever into the Alzette River after he spied on her and saw her fish tail. This enchanting tale adds a mythical layer to your visit.
